The final post in our Target Style Series is all about layering. We’ve talked pencil skirts, jackets, and essentials for men, and now it’s time to pile on the layers. As the temperatures cool down, I love adding a cozy sweater and warm boots. Layering is also a great way to take the pieces you’ve been wearing all summer and figure out new ways to keep wearing them.
Work
button down top / ankle pants / necklace / sweater / heels / skinny belt
Silky collared tops are great for layering under sweaters, cardigans and blazers. Choose one in a bright jewel tone for a pop of color under a solid crewneck sweater. To add another layer, you can wear a statement necklace like this chunky gold chain necklace to draw attention to your face. Since this look focuses most of the layering on top, keep the bottom half simple with a pair of ankle pants and nude pointy heels to elongate your legs.
date
sweater / skirt / wool floppy hat / ankle boots / leggings
If you want to keep a layered look more monochromatic, think about mixing different textures and proportions. I like the idea of a lightweight sweater in a loose fitting style layered with a camisole. Since the top is loose keep the bottom slim with a legging pant or pencil skirt. You can extend your leg line by choosing shoes that match the color of your tights or pants or to create more contrast wear tights in a brighter color.
Weekend
shawl sweater / dress / boots / bag / belt
Floral prints are sometimes thought of as a spring or summer print, but they can be worn year-round. To make floral prints wearable for fall and winter, add a thicker material like this chunky sweater. To keep your figure from getting lost, use a belt to define your waist. And if you need more warmth, add a pair of tights.

I wish I could go shopping with you. You have the best taste and such an awesome ability to put together an outfit. Something I completely lack! I have good taste (well, I think so–ha!) in individual pieces, but such problems putting them together. I loved all of the posts you did for this series! That shawl sweater totally screams weekend to me.
Great choices! I think the weekend group in my favorite.
I love your style! All of these outfits are great, especially the first two!

You always share such great styling tips! I use to suck at the whole layering game but I’m starting to get better at it. I am smitten with that cozy cardi in the last pic.
Amazing looks ! I want the whole date look for myself !

I had no idea Target had so many belts.
If only their skirts and dresses were a little longer.
Great combos.
I agree with Gloria! The leopard/magenta combo is gorgeous. I love leopard but haven’t been bold enough to try it in a bigger piece yet.
Love the first outfit – the magenta & leopard combo is so pretty!
