5 Make up Tricks to Fake Looking Awake

I’ve been having a serious case of pregnancy insomnia of late. And with a baby due in the next 8-9 weeks, I’m pretty sure my dark eye circles are here to stay.

While still holding out for a make-up miracle, here are 5 morning tricks I use to fake looking awake. So easy and you’ll be out the door in less than 5 minutes.

make up tricks 1. Moisturize

This somewhat goes without saying, but start the day by giving your face some much needed moisture. I start with a (very) light application of coconut oil just out of the shower.

2. Attack the bags

Erase Paste is truly my “don’t leave home without it” product. Lightly apply concealer under the eyes and on lids. Just dab with your fingertips – be gentle with this skin area. Then a little powder helps set it. Don’t powder all over or it will make you look old – just under the eyes and maybe on your nose.

3. Open your eyes

After Gwyneth Paltrow’s make-up artist said to always use an eyelash curler I promptly added it to my routine. Curling the lashes and adding a coat of black mascara goes an amazingly long way. I’m not terribly loyal to any mascara and end up picking a brand on impulse. Any recommendations?

4. Bright lips

Bright lipstick instantly makes your whole face light up. Plus you feel “done up” without much effort! I’m currently on a search for a long-lasting lipstick because I hate reapplying every 5 minutes. Once I find that I’ll start on world peace.

make up 5. Rosy cheeks

If you have an 30 seconds, add some blush to your cheeks. It brightens your complexion. I love this Clinique creamy blush that I can easily apply and blend with my fingertips.

Bonus: Skip the black eyes

Switch to brown eyeliner and you’ll look years younger! I just learned this from Allure magazine and was so happy since I have used brown for years. Line the upper lid only to easily wake up the eyes. I use Aveda because it does not go on in a harsh line that I then have to soften and blend. Who needs the extra step?

What tricks do you use to hide the all-nighters? Share your make-up must-haves!

HI, just read through your blog. I really like your cute DIY ideas and your pictures are fab. I’ll definitely try the green tea body mist and the hot chocolate mix for gifts (okay; let’s be honest, even for myself) :p
Good luck for the rest of your blog, I “liked” your facebook page so i’ll be back

Try Full ‘N Soft mascara by Maybelline. It darkens the lashes and adds bulk but leaves them feeling super soft, almost as if you have nothing on. And for lipstick, I would probably recommend pretty much any of the Maybelline lipsticks, preferably the Color Sensational or Superstay 14hr lipsticks. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about the Wet n Wild lipsticks but I can’t say personally how well they work.

I recommend ELF brand products for three reasons:
    1. They work. Nothing clumps or runs or anything, and it’s easy to remove.
    2. It’s cheap. So cheap. Like $1 cheap.
    3. ELF does not do any testing on animals and are cruelty free!
It’s the holy trinity of awesomeness for me!

Thanks for sharing! I haven’t even heard of the Erase Paste, so I will have to give that a try..
I am almost 40.. so I have problems with lines and dark circles under my eyes.. I have tried everything from store brand to Lancome.. and have finally (for now) settled on L’Oreal Youth Code eye cream.. I love it! It smooths out the fine lines, and soaks in good, so you are not left with “gooey” or tacky skin..

For Makeup, I use Revlon “age rewind” dual concealer stick w/highlighter- works wonders for hiding and brightening under your eyes!! Then no liquid make up- (unless I am really dressing up or going out) I just dust my face with Revlon colorstay mineral powder..
Instead of lipstick, which you are right- it is hard to find one that actually stays.. I use lip liner. I outline my lips, fill it in with the liner, pat with just a dab of powder, then apply lip gloss or other lip moisturizer.. seems to last quite a bit longer than regular lipstick!
    Hope this helps~

I always use brown eyeliner so I love that it makes you look younger! I’ve never used Aveda but I’m going to have to check that one out. Great tips!

Ooooh great tips! I really need to pay attention to myself – I’ve let things go lately, lol! And I did not know about the black vs. brown eyeliner! I always wear black…going to try brown! Thanks for all the tips!

Great tips. I love mabelline mascara. I buy the one in the purple tube and I am amazed at how even one coat beefs up my lashes.

What color is that Clinique lipstick? It looks mighty cheerful!

    once again, GREAT post! :)
i have grown to love cover girl’s lash blast mascara in the orange tube. SUPER great volume and separation. it has really little bristles so it gets even the ‘baby’ lashes.

Okay, here’s you a tip for the lipstick. I use Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick. Here’s a link: http://www.revlon.com/Revlon-Home/Products/Lips/Lipcolor/NEW-ColorStay-Ultimate-Liquid-Lipstick.aspx

I use the shade Brilliant Bourdeax and it’s some serious red lip color. You have to put it on completely DRY lips. NO chapstick at all. Let it set, (I always have to do some touch-ups, I think I have weird lips), and then I’m set for the day. I can eat and drink and it stays put. Usually, after wearing it for about 8 hours, I need a touch-up. But it’s just another layer and I’m good to go. I will have to use makeup remover to get it all off. It’s that good.

The only negative to this lip color I have so far, is that it’s a matte and feels kinda dry. I tried adding some chapstick over the top of it, but it makes the color come off my top lip and only stick to the bottom lip. (I told you I had weird lips.) So, no chapstick, but it does last all day and I really love the shade I have. If you try it out, let me know! I’d love to know how you like it in comparison. :)

My “can’t-leave-home-without-it” is my mascara. I have blond eyelashes so I look like a ghost without mascara. I use Maybelline Full-N-Soft Waterproof mascara. I started using it after my senior year and have used it ever since. I’ve tried other brands, but none compare to my Maybelline. :)

    Have an awesome day! :)

I think that super stay 24 color from maybelline works amazingly. You put on the lip color and wait for it to dry ( I minute tops ) then yiu put the balm on top to help it stay on !
