So one of the benefits of no Internet or cable over the last couple of days has been lots of free time. (It’s still out. I’m at another coffee shop, which I kind of enjoy, I must say. Repair man coming today. Hopefully.)
I channeled this new found time into Halloween decorating. I have NEVER done a festive mantel for any holiday (other than lining up Christmas cards). And, given the chance, I went a little nuts.
I got some webbing stuff to hang on the huge mirror over the mantel and taped up a couple of creepy spiders. And creep they do. Massive amounts of tape are not keeping those guys in place and every day they inch a little lower. Seriously, it weirds me out.
Silver branches found tucked away in the basement were stuck in vases filled with candy corn leftover from Caroline’s picnic. The Spells, Cures & Potions books are my fave. I covered big recipe books in black construction paper and wrote in chalk (yep, my handwriting stinks).
Coming up is a quick tutorial (with download) on how to make your own bat garland!
Don’t you love that spooky shot of the backlit pumpkin? I promise there are no lights in there!

If that's what nuts looks like…I love it!! The bats and the huge spiders give it great creep factor for this holiday that is so much fun to celebrate. I'd love it if you came and shared this at my halloween link party at http://igottacreate.blogspot.com !
THat looks awesome Steph–I think you have an inner interior designer trying to come out :) Please come help me out with your skills!
Where did you get those ancient books of spells, cures and potions? I'm pretty sure the witch down the street from my house has been looking for those. I won't tell her you have them because you don't want her knocking on your door. She's short and she has a broom that's taller than she is! And she uses it to sweep the stoop everyday!
I absolutely LOVE Halloween and I LOVE this! So cute! Your decorations look amazing.
I love love love it! Halloween is my absolute favorite (who doesn't like candy?!). Good for you getting ready early so you can enjoy the whole month!
That looks fantastic! Isn't is amazing what we can achieve without the internet to distract us?! I love the books.
Ok this is seriously cute. We never bother to really decorate the house for anything other than Christmas, but now I think I could get into Halloween decor :-)
Looks great! Love the bats garland!
I love it! I can't wait to whip out my Halloween stuff!

I love this! You did a really wonderful job making it all flow perfectly! Great job Steph! I am loving that little banner. Super cute!
Oh to have a mantle Stephanie (and to be into Halloween as much as you guys are). We are having a little party this year so a few outside decorations and Halloween themed food on the day but nothing else. Yours looks great though. How do the kids go? Do they like it or are they a little scared still?
Missing you on the Internet!
Anne xx
ME. LOVEY!!
Darn it! This is why I need a mantle!! You did a great job and I like how you used alot of stuff you already had lying around. I have to agree though I absolutely love the potions and spells books. So clever! May have to steal that idea from ya!
