For all of you who said to keep the heart posts coming, this one if for you! Last week we treated the kids to a breakfast for dinner night, and they were beyond excited. Especially when we used cookie cutters to cut the pancakes into heart shapes. It blew their wee little minds.
And it gave me a chance to break in my new apron. I loved this simple white apron I found at Michaels. And then – wait for it – I sewed on heart pockets! I know it’s crafty and corny, but I need something to make cooking more fun, right?
Have I mentioned how heavy a cast iron skillet is? Sheesh.
In an effort to find more excuses to wear my apron here are 7 yummy recipes that feature happy hearts. Seriously, I’m not sure which to try first. Will you be baking for Valentine’s Day?
7 Yummy Heart Recipes
1. Dark chocolate pomegranate mouse – Oh My Veggies | 2. Chocolate cherry meringues – Matthew’s Puzzle | 3. Hidden heart pound cake – Boulder Locavore | 4. Pink up your life – The Gigglepea | 5. Heart milk cubes – A Subtle Revery | 6. Valentine’s themed cookies – The Little Kitchen | 7. Mini chocolate heart cakes recipe – Will Cook For Smiles

I love that apron. It said it was a DIY? I tried finding the link to it, but didn’t see it. I love everything heart shaped for Valentine’s Day as much as I love holiday cookies in December. Makes me smile :)

Baking in Couture
Hi Inna – sorry for the confusion. I didn’t include any of my how-to pics because it was just a photo of me sewing on the pockets :) I just cut the shape out of felt and sewed it onto the apron with embroidery thread. Please let me know if you have questions!
Oh I see. Still so cute! Thanks for clarifying.

Thank you for the mention! I love your apron–would you believe I don’t even have one?!
Really? No way! I’ve never really worn one either but it’s fun. You should totally get one those big, tall chef hats :)
This is such a sweet and cute post. Love your apron.
Thanks Angie :) What am I going to do after Valentine’s Day, lol? Hope you had a great weekend!
I need to make something heart-shaped this weekend–these are inspiring ideas :) I love the apron too-maybe if I had a cool apron, I’d be inspired to cook? :)
Ha, that’s what I’m hoping too! Let’s get together this week and make some brownies or cookies with the girls.
Aww so cute! I wasn’t going to do any more baking for Valentine’s Day but I think some cookies may be in order and really… it’s not Valentine’s Day without chocolate cake is it?
I think it’s more fun to bake for Valentine’s than for Christmas – less pressure maybe? It’s definitely a chocolate kind of day – let me know if you have a favorite cake recipe!
Hi Stephanie
What a wonderful apron! Fantastic work, I was very interested in sewing once, but I’m secretly scared by the sewing machine. :D
Anyway, I wanted to say, thank you very very much for featuring my food in this lovely post!
Best wishes,
Lara.
Hi Lara – I’m glad you’re glad to be included! Loved your yummy recipe :)
YAY for hearts!!!! :)
Love that apron! Why don’t I have an apron for every holiday/season? Hmm… good question.
I am baking up a little something special on Valentine’s Day morning for my boys. Well, at least the boys with more than two teeth ;) haha! Of course, there will be pictures, so be on the look out! :)
What are you baking for V-day morning? I need ideas (otherwise it might be pancakes – again). And I totally agree – we definitely need aprons for every holiday!
Since Valentine’s Day is the first day hubby and I are finished with the 24 Day Challenge diet we’ve been doing, I thought it would be great to do something special that day. And when I found this pin : http://pinterest.com/pin/269301252689912152/ I knew what I wanted to do. I’ve got everything needed for this (I bought Pillsbury ready-made pie crust last night) and am thinking of mixing things up to do some with Valentine’s Day sprinkles and some with the strawberries. ;)
What?! That looks so yummy. I need pie crust stat (b/c of course I already have nutella even tho I shouldn’t). How did the 24 day challenge go?
Totally yummy! And totally easy! Of course, I can never follow a recipe exactly. So I’m doing mine heart-shaped, and probably sans the strawberry jelly.
I think the challenge has gone really well. I’m sure we’ve gained some back after our trip this weekend. I don’t think I’m reaching my goal of 20 pounds lost, BUT, I can definitely tell that I’ve lost inches overall. You know those jeans you have that are super uncomfortable when you wash them because they tighten so much? Yeah, I wore those this weekend, right after washing them, and they weren’t uncomfortable at all. Thursday will be the final weigh-in day and measuring day. I’m anxious to see what my totals are. And excited to keep it going even post-challenge.
Yay for you – that is awesome! You should definitely go by how you clothes fit versus the scale! Don’t get caught up in the number b/c you probably added muscle too. I’m finally starting to get my act together – well, sort of :)

What about some Valentine’s Day beauty? Maybe some homemade red lips? :) <3
Excellent idea Francesca! Red lips are definitely my favorite – will see what I can do :)
Chocolate cherry meringues sound SO good. I love all the heart shaped foods that pop up in February!
We really need to get Michaels over here I think. You always find so much good stuff. How nice is a plain white apron to spruce up.
Anne xx
You don’t have Michaels? Man, that’s a bummer! Do you have any craft stores? Like a JoAnns? I bet you have all kinds of cute aprons!
I want that skillet. One day before I die, they will sell Le Crueset at Walmart at discount. It will happen.
I know, I love that skillet! You should check eBay – my dad is a total cheapskate and I think that’s where he got these for our wedding.
