When I saw Joy in this super cute necklace on Oh Joy! from The House of Kami I knew I wanted to create a DIY version. The bright colors are so pretty for spring. Then I went nuts and couldn’t stop painting beads.
You will need:
- Wooden beads in several sizes.
- Acrylic paint in a few different colors.
- Mod Podge Gloss.
- Paint brush.
- Twine. You can also use jewelry chain or leather cord to string the beads.
Instructions
1. First, paint the beads. Two coats gives you good coverage.
2. After the paint is dry give the beads a coat of Mod Podge gloss.
3. String the beads. If you use twine, wrap the end in a piece of tape to make it easier to thread.
4. Have fun experimenting with different colors and bead sizes!

I LOVE this project… the end result is so wearable! I’m having trouble finding similar wood beads– any sourcing ideas?
Fun idea. You can paint them to go w/ any outfit.
So pretty and simple. Thank you for sharing.
These are so fun! I love all the different colour combinations. They remind me of gumballs :)
All the best,
Claire

So cute and fun!
This is such a cute idea and I love the color combinations you used! I always hated gold and suddenly, I can’t get enough of it.
Love this! I have to make my own now! :)
What a great idea!!!! I was just thinking about needing to add some chunky jewelry… actually braclets, but can never find anything in the ‘perfect’ colors… Now I can make the bead colors I want!!!! Thanks so much for this post, I never knew it was that easy to paint wooden beads. Have a wonderful weekend! Visiting from Fingerprints on the Fridge. ~Kimberlee, The Spunky Diva
Those are so cute and so simple to make!
Thanks for linking up to this week’s Catch a Glimpse party! I will be featuring this tomorrow!
What a GREAT idea! Especially for pre-schoolers to make for themselves or someone else….like say, their MOM for Mother’s Day!? I know it would be a craft that would actually be worn & not just hung up to collect dust :) Thanks for sharing this! We may have to give this craft a try around here!! -Julie
That’s really pretty Steph–maybe I could have one for Easter :)
Love this! So simple and beautiful! My favourite kind of DIY
I saw Joy wearing that necklace and thought it was so cute! I never realized how easy it would be to DIY! I might have to make one of these!
I agree with Licia’s comment above…hehe. I wish I could speak another language but no seriously cute necklace!
