DIY Anthropologie Ribbon Bobby Pins

ribbon bobby pins I’m a nut over bobby pins. The best hair bling for gals with short hair! I saw these on Anthropologie and was not about to pay $18 bucks for them. (They are on sale now so I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought that was crazy.) Still, I’d rather make my own ribbon bobby pins to customize the color.

make ribbon bobby pins All you need:

DIY Anthropologie Ribbon Bobby Pins Step 1: Start at the bottom of the bobby pin and secure the ribbon with a dab of E-6000 glue. Give that a chance to dry.

Step 2: Loop the ribbon back and forth through the top of the bobby pin. You’ll have to use your fingers to pry open the bobby pin while you work. Push the ribbon down as you go to keep it tightly together.

diy bobby pins Step 3: When you reach the end, loop the ribbon around and dab with glue. Secure with a regular bobby pin and let dry over night.

See? I need bright things to distract from my crazy hair!

  1. Where did you get your ribbon? I am having a hard time finding 1/4 inch ribbon? I keep finding 1/8 and 3/8.

    Thanks,

    Sybyl

    • You can use the 1/8 inch ribbon also! It becomes a more delicate intricate design, even more beautiful :) Hope this helps!

  2. This is a great way to jazz up bobby pins! Love the fact that they are affordable and you can make as many different ones that you need! Very cute :)

  3. I also found the bobby pins at Walmart. I live in a very small town so our Walmart isnt very big and I couldn’t find the Goody brand but I found the same pins carried by Scunci. They are no slip grip- all day hold pins

  4. I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but by the time I got around to making these the Target link was out of date and I have no idea what these fancy bobby pins are called (and no matter what I search on the internet I can’t seem to find them).
Do you remember the name of this type of pin? I would be forever indebted :-)

  5. Yours are much nicer than the original, I must say. Wonderfully done!

  6. This is one of those times where the diy version looks so much better than the original. I find that happens a lot with Anthropologie look a likes.

  7. What a great tutorial! I’ve featured this project as part of Simple Crafter’s Simple Craft Tutorials for this week. :)

  8. These are great! I'll have to keep an eye out for this kind of bobby pin…

  16. Okay, I know I just commented, but I'm commenting again to let you know I'm following, because I just looked through some of your other posts and I actually think I could do MOST of this stuff! REALLY! I can't believe it! I'm completely incompetent when it comes to crafts, and I could actually make this pretty stuff! I'm excited!

  17. Well that's brilliant! I use bobby pins constantly! I have long hair, but there are always pieces that just won't cooperate, and I use bobby pins to secure them. These look gorgeous! You did a great job photographing the whole process too! I think I might actually be able to do this, and I'm somewhat deficient in the crafty department! LOL

I'm stopping by from the Wednesday Window Blog Hop! Love this! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  35. Ooh love these hair pins – you're so clever! Anthropologie better watch out :-)

  36. I am sure other people have said this – but the DIY version looks A LOT better than anthro's. I was JUST in there on Saturday while in Manhattan. Gosh I love that store…expensive though. I bough the initial mugs :) XO

  37. These are so cute! And yours look just as good as Anthro's. Why is their stuff so ridiculously expensive??

  38. I think I like the DIY version better! Really cute and great for fall.

  39. Oh Steph, they're so cute. I don't think our Target sells those kind of bobby pins. I've never seen them before. I'll keep my eye out though. With the ribbon, they're really gorgeous.

    Anne xx

  40. delicious

  41. Those are so cute. I have never seen those bobby pins before, you can bet I am heading to Target!

  42. I think your version looks less handmade than the originals! Super cute. I am admiring the missoni bobby pins that Target will have next week, especially since I may grow out my bangs.

  43. Way to go, lady! Your DIY version looks fantastic!!! xoxoxo brynn

  44. OMG I love these. You are my DIY role model! :)

  45. Very cute! No, I couldn't imagine paying that much for a bobby pin either. But yay for craftiness and making our own things. ;)

  46. I LOVE this! I think your version is way prettier than the Anthro one too! : )

    I'm your newest follower!

  47. so so cute! just discovered your blog via twitter- am a fellow diy junkie and new follower! xo

  48. I love these! I saw them at Anthro too and thought about making them but wasn't sure where to get the bobby pins…duh…they are at Target! Thanks!

  49. My nieces would love them. :)

  50. This looks awesome! I love when you can recreate something & have it look just as great as the original–for a lot less money. :) You are super talented!

  51. These are fantastic!!!! So simple to make, I would not pay so much for them either! I think my daughter would really like these, so I'm going to do this as a DIY project at her sleepover party!!! Thanks so much for another KILLER DIY :)
    xoxo
