Did you guys have a lovely weekend? We had a gorgeous day Saturday for Caroline’s picnic (photos to come) and it has rained ever since. I enjoyed the long break – thank you so much to Krista and Lindsay for guest posting!
I’ve realized that I enjoy making stuff from unusual materials. Hose clamps, paper clips, hex nuts. You get the idea….
When I saw this Anthropologie gumball necklace I thought, how cool would it be to make one from actual gumballs! So I did. And it only cost me 50 cents – not $258!
I’ve worn this necklace a couple of times – I love that I can change out the colors – and people always comment on it. It’s a fun conversation piece.
To make your own, you will need:
- 2 gumballs of different sizes. I got mine from a machine outside of our grocery store for 25 cents each.
- 2 earring clamps – the small silver things. I bought these ages ago to make the feather earrings that I never got around to.
- Glue – I used E-6000
- At least 24 inches of gold chain
- 2 jump rings
- Something to cut the chain
Step 1: Poke a hole into the gumball. You might need a knife to break the surface but then use a toothpick to widen as necessary. You don’t need to push in very far since the clamps are pretty tiny.
Step 2: Coat the earring clamp in glue and insert it into the gumball hole. Set aside to dry.
Step 3: Cut your chain. Anthropologie said their necklace was 24 inches in length so I cut that amount. However, I would add a couple of inches next time.
NOTE: Did you notice that I’m using “Mark’s Ruler”? He has probably had that since 3rd grade! So cute.
Step 4: Add your jump rings to the each end of the chain and attach to the gumball when the glue is dry.
My gumball looks kind of wet here because I coated it in Modge Podge. Not recommended as it gave it a crackled look. It was sort of pretty but not what I was going for.
I left the other gumballs untreated and they were fine. They lose some of the shiny appearance after a few days (I guess they dry out) so if you want them to stay shiny, spray with a glossy sealer.
Step 5: Wear by crossing one side under and over the other.

I just finished to made one myself. Thanks for this creative idea, I just loved it – well, I didn't use real gumballs, as outside it is 33C and I'm afraid the gumballs can melt down…
Blessings,
Nádya
This is the second time I've seen this knock-off. I looove it but… in any way you could come up with something that is not made with edible items? Marla
Awesome!! I really want a gum ball now though :) This is a anthro knock of that I may actually be able to pull off. You are so clever!! Stopping by from Crafty Soiree!
That's so creative! I like yours even better, especially since I've been known to need a little sugar fix now and then. Edible accessories. I like it.
I may have to rename this post – love the idea of edible accessories!
Thanks for linking to Take-A-Look Tuesday – you were featured today!!

I really like the colors you chose to put together, how clever!
So pretty, I think the simplest things are the best for accessorizing.

thanks so much for sharing!
I don’t understand how these necklaces can cost so much!! yours is so cute! love it. I kind of want one now.
I was kind of worried about it rubbing off as well….. it would be super cute with the smaller black ones, too – you could even have a 'dressy' gumball necklace. LOL!
Love the idea of a dressy gumball necklace! :) Thanks for stopping by!!
You are a genius! What an adorable necklace.
I would love for you to post this on my Fall In Love linky party today.
This is SO SO cute, and well done! I love it, Stephanie!
That looks amazing! Great job! Have you had any problems with the color rubbing off onto your clothes? I am stopping by from the A Little Tipsy DIY under $5 linky.
No, no problems! They rub a little on your hands if you handle them a lot but wearing it as a necklace has been fine. Thanks for stopping by! :)
I have to agree with Hannah…..my gumballs would not last long…..I'd be pinching off pieces of the gumballs to chew!! Proud of your creativity, my darling daughter!
oh! p.s. don't feel like you have to participate in the blog award thing if you don't want to…i just wanted to give a little love to your awesome blog :)
This is fantastic, Stephanie :) You are so talented!!! I love your DIYs :) xoxoxo brynn
That is amazing! $258?!? You saved a boatload of money! I love all your Anthropologie DIYs :) I was just in there this weekend swooning over everything while simultaneous hating their guts for cruelly making everything out of my price range. So posts like this make me such a happy girl!
You are so dang smart! I'm surprised that the color doesn't come off on your clothes if you don't seal it with something. I actually kind of like the one you coated in Modge Podge. :)
I love that these are seriously made out of gumballs. Don't you ever get the urge to chew on your own necklace??
Haha, I don't, but my kids sure do!! :)
You are so giving Anthro a run for their money! This is awesome. I LOVE the pink one.
Oh my gosh adorable!
Well, isn't that a cute idea! Great job!
Very Very cute! I love the look! Great color choices too!
Stephanie you have amazed me again with your ability to DIY something and make it look PERFECT! I love that you actually got the gum balls out of a gum ball machine :)
What a great idea Stephanie. I'm so glad we don't have Anthropologie here but who cares? I can still have their copies while you're around! LOL Glad you had a great weekend away. I'm just catching up on blog posts etc. My daughter and I got back last night after a weekend interstate. So much to catch up on, isn't there?
Anne xx
